MONARCHY
Royal Houses in Europe from 1940 onwards.
History, challenges, and survivability
MONARCHY by the Dutch historian and journalist Kemal Rijken has just been sold to Czechia. The fine publisher NLN https://www.nln.cz/ will bring out the book in 2025. The Dutch Foundation for Literature is subsidizing this translation.
MONARCHY can be regarded as a standard work on European monarchies. The author is ready to update if any changes should be necessary. He speaks English and German fluently and is ready to engage in promotion for this book. He has been travelling with the Dutch king and queen and when Royal matters are discussed in the media, he is a well-spoken guest in talk shows with all his background knowledge.
A publisher with a program focused on narrative history should be interested in this title that is very well researched yet an easy enjoyable read.
Rights sold to NLN (Czechia)
In Monarchy, historian Kemal Rijken describes various aspects of European royal houses since the Second World War in 16 chapters: about family ties, political influence, coups, decolonization, prince consort, the media and also money – everything that you might want to know.
»Europe's monarchies have been populated by striking characters: From Queen Wilhelmina using Crystal meth and Queen Juliana falling under the spell of a faith healer to Denmark's Frederick the IX with bodybuilder's body, tattoos, tight leopard-themed swimming trunks.« De Standaard
